The first EGG summer school was held in Olomouc / Czech Republic in 1994. Since 1996, it is organized by GLEE (Generative Linguistics in Eastern Europe), a Dutch-registered foundation founded in 1996 whose purpose is to make the EGG happen. The EGG is a division of GLEE.

GLEE delegates practical matters to an organizing committee, called the EGG board.

Current members of the EGG board are Dana Isac (Concordia), Alex Chabot (Maryland) and Tobias Scheer (Nice).
