Registration will start this Tuesday till June 10. Basically, everything will be the same as last year: you register in the next fortnight and a bit later you will confirm your presence in the confirmation round. That confirmation is binding. Prices are a little different, as hosting the school this year in Georgia is more expensive. The reduced fee (for students from former communist countries) is 120 euros, which includes 13 nights in the hostel. The regular fee is 40 euros more (160 euros) and, of course, also incudes accomodation. There will be a possibilty to apply for grants on an individual basis (only for students from former communist countries).
dates
Sorry, forgot to add the dates: EGG Lagodekhi will be as usual last week July and first week August, that is 25 July – 5 August (classes).
Accommodation included in the registration fee will also be as usual: 13 nights starting the day before classes (24 July) and ending on the morning after the last class (6 August).
Oh yes, and Facebook says that there will be teachers in morpho-phonology. Well, the track is phonology. Morphology is where it usually hangs out: with phonologists and syntacticians 🙂
Lagodekhi 2016
Here’s spring, and here’s the first 2016 post:
The EGG will be held in the lovely natural resort of Lagodekhi at the foot of the Greater Caucasus Mountains in Georgia, 160km from Tbilisi.
Accommodation will be all luxus for EGG standards: in hotels. But the price will be about the same as in previous years.
Teacher lineup to come soon, keep an eye on this page…
Open podium
Dear all,
As you can see, in week 2, the fifth slot in the schedule is open for the most part. This slot in week 2 can be used as some kind of an “open podium”. If you want to present some of your work, or share other stuff, you can make use of that. It will all be very informal and time permitting we’ll in principle include everybody (on a first-come-first-served basis). Just send an email to the organizers if you intend to do this.
Confirmation period
Dear all,
This post contains important information about the confirmation procedure: what it is, how to do it, why we do it, etc. Please read this carefully and make sure you confirm your application between June 16 and June 26.
What is the “confirmation procedure”?
We need you to confirm your presence to the summerschool. Only after confirmation your registration is complete. If you don’t confirm, you will automatically be deregistered.
Why?
Experience shows that many people who register don’t show up at the school. But those who bother to confirm, do show up. This way, we can plan the practical details of the school much better. Also, the dorm people must know in advance who they will have to host.
How?
You will receive an email (not by me, but by Benjamin Burkhardt) in the next couple of days. This email contains the instructions for the confirmation. Please read it carefully, and everything will speak for itself.
What happens if I confirm and then I don’t come?
If you confirm and then don’t come to the school, apart from sill having to pay, you will have the privilege of being thrown into the basket of rotten eggs J. And, as Klaus Abels’ famous words are: rotten eggs stink! Seriously: rotten eggs cannot register for school in the next 3 years.
So make sure that you have access to email between July 16-26 and send your confirmation.
Best,
The EGG organizers
Small bug
It looks like there has been a small bug in the registration website. We’re working on repairing it.
Registrations definite after the confirmation period
Dear all, just to make sure: this is the registration period, followed by a confirmation period. After the confirmation period all registrations are definite, not before. We do not have a strict selection procedure, but we need to ensure that all students fits in the dorm and that people are serious (‘I would like to learn English and I love Hungary’ is not a good motivation to attend Brno15). If the numbers are too high, we have to select on the basis of your motivations. After the confirmation period ( mid June) your registration is definite and you can safely buy your tickets.
Registration open soon
Registration will start in the second half of May, and we will run the usual two rounds: first you register and provide a short self-description, then in June you confirm that you really will be in Brno. If you confirm and don’t come, you’ll be a rotten egg, and these don’t smell good.
Here come the classes
The Teachers & Classes page is now active, and the first two course descriptions (Phillip Backley’s) are on. Take a look, the others will drop in…
…And registration will open soon, keep an eye on this page.
Phonology lineup
To complete, here’s the belated phonology crew:
- Phillip Backley (Tohoku Gakuin University, Japan)
- Heather Newell (UQAM, Montreal)
- Ewan Dunbar (EHESS, Paris)
- Tobias Scheer (Nice)
Ph. Backley will focus on subsegmental structure (melody), while the others will talk about the interface with morpho-syntax (from different perspectives). Course abstracts to come…
