In this course, we will discuss how syntax and morphology can be studied experimentally using a couple of examples: long-distance dependencies and agreement in phi-features. We will analyze the basics of experimental design covering various behavioural and neurophysiological methods and consider how experimental studies can be used to tease apart different hypotheses formulated in theoretical linguistics — and why so far, most hypotheses cannot be tested experimentally.
